Victimia Complete by padawanbutterfingers Victimia Complete by padawanbutterfingers
Here is the completed Victimia which I have been working on for the last 14 months. It is oil on panel, 1m x 2m, with a near life-sized photo-print of my Victimia body art combined with the painting. The breasts and pelvis are made of panty-hose fabric, cotton batting and styrofoam balls, and coloured with pastels. The installation of heads are mannequin heads painted with acrylic paint with painted chopsticks drilled into them.

Masks represent a repression of identity. Sightlessness and hairlessness represent powerlessness. Chopsticks represent a repression of sexuality. The use of Asian masks is to reflect the subjugation that Asian women still face even the most modern of cities like Japan and Singapore.

Unlike real breasts, her artificial breasts are hard and uninviting, not unlike the fake breasts enhanced by surgery. Her pelvis is bound up by red string, another representation of the repression of sexuality by today's red tape.

For the meaning of the painting, please refer to my previous hand-painted work entitled "Victimia".
